Purpose and Objectives

The Purpose and Objectives as outlined in Article II of the Bylaws of the Association: 

The primary purpose of the Chapter is to promote the education of its members for the improvement and development of their capabilities relating to the security of information systems processing.

The objectives of the Association are:
  1. to promote the education of, and help expand the knowledge and skills of its members in the interrelated fields of information systems security and information or data processing;
  2. to encourage a free exchange of information security techniques, approaches, and problem solving by its members;
  3. to provide adequate communication to keep members abreast of current events in information processing and security which can be beneficial to them and employers; and
  4. to communicate to management and to systems and information processing professionals the importance of establishing controls necessary to ensure the secure organization and utilization of information processing resources.

2016 Goals

The board has established the following goals for 2016:

  • Provide educational opportunities by:
    • Holding a CISSP Study Group
    • Giving away information security books at all member meetings and events
  • Provide professional networking opportunities to members and sponsors by
    • Holding quarterly AfterHours networking events
    • Holding a holiday gathering in December
  • Promote Information Security as a career by:
    • Providing scholarships to local security programs
    • Sponsoring Aspirations in Computing program
    • Sponsoring ten information security student memberships
    • Participating in at least one high school career day
  • Grow the local information security community by:
    • increasing membership to 185 members
